What are the different types of resin?ย 

Epoxy Resin

Epoxy resin is a type of synthetic resin that is made from a combination of two substances: a base resin and a hardener. When these two substances are mixed together, they create a chemical reaction that causes the mixture to harden into a solid state. Once it has hardened, epoxy resin is very strong and durable. It can be used for everything from coating floors to creating jewellery.ย 

Epoxy resin is often used in place of traditional adhesives because it forms a stronger bond and is more resistant to heat and chemicalsย 

UV Resin

UV resin is another type of synthetic resin that is made from polymerization chains. Unlike epoxy resin, UV resin does not require a hardener in order to solidify. Instead, it uses ultraviolet light in order to cure, or harden, the material. UV resin is also very strong and durable once it has been cured. However, it should be noted that UV resin takes longer to cure than epoxy resinโ€”usually about 24 hours.ย 

This type of resin is becoming increasingly popular for crafting because it doesn't require the use of toxic chemicals like many other types of resins. UV resins come in clear and pigmented varieties, so you can choose the one that best suits your needs

Both epoxy resin and UV resin are great options for crafting and other applications. However, they each have their own unique properties that make them better suited for certain tasks. Epoxy resin is more user-friendly because it doesn't require UV light in order to cure. However, UV resin has a shorter curing time overall. Ultimately, the choice between epoxy resin and UV resin comes down to personal preference.

How do I use epoxy resin?ย 

There are two main factors to consider when using resin.ย 

Ventilation

When working with epoxy resins, it is important to have proper ventilation. Fumes from the resin can be harmful if inhaled, so it is important to work in a well-ventilated area. If possible, work outdoors or in a garage with the door open. If you are working indoors, open windows and use fans to circulate air.

Protective Gear

Another important safety measure is to wear protective gear. This includes gloves, goggles, and a respirator mask. The gloves will protect your hands from the resin, while the goggles will protect your eyes. The respirator mask will filter out harmful fumes.

What materials can you use epoxy resin on?

However, it's important to note that the curing process can take several days to fully harden. During this time, the resin should not be disturbed or touched to ensure proper curing. But once it has set, epoxy resin offers exceptional strength and a long-lasting bond for various projects and applications.

How long do I have to use the resin I've mixed?

While it varies depending on the specific resin you are using, most mixed resins will last for up to 24 hours before requiring reapplication. As time goes on, the mixed resin may begin to harden and lose its effectiveness. To make sure you get the most out of your mixed resin, always use it within 12 hours and keep it stored in a cool, dark area away from direct sunlight.ย 

For longer-term storage, we recommend creating smaller batches of mixed resin as needed to ensure maximum freshness and effectiveness.ย ย
